Type A Packaging

Type A packagings are used for small but significant quantities of radioactive materials (Examples: technetium generators and other medical isotopes). They are suitable for transport of products whose activity is lower than the A1 or A2 value (*).
TRANSNUBEL designs, supplies or has access to a wide range of type A radioactive material packaging. Some of these are for example:

IMPORTANT:
(*)(*) => A1 is the maximum activity of special form radioactive material permitted in a Type A package; A2 is the maximum activity of radioactive material not in special form permitted in a Type A package.
(**) => Possibility of obtaining a special arrangement.

Suited for: various radioactive substances
Description:
Packaging for transport in dry condition of radioactive material in solid form (as pellet, powder or tablets) whose activity is limited

Suited for: irradiated samples
Description:
Transport cask for radioactive materials. Top- or horizontal-loading; possibility of accosting with a hot cell.

Things you should know about Type A packaging:

  • These are certified packages  used for small but significant quantities of radioactive material.
  • They are designed to withstand minor accidents. The consequences of a release of the material in case of a major accident would not be significant since the allowed quantity of the material in these packages is limited.
  • They are subjected to tests which simulate routine conditions such as exposure to rain and rough handling.
